Drink every time I say “Super”! Just kidding. But really, we’ve all said it, how lame was that Super Bowl?!
Even though I was hoping the game was going to be much more exciting, we at least had our pre-game goodies to amp us up. It also helped that overnight we decided we were Seahawk fans, an undeniably fun and exciting team. This happened for two reasons:
- QB Russell Wilson is from Richmond and went to NC State. Therefore, we are big fans because we now live in Richmond and my Papa is a HUGE Wolfpack fan, so it’s in my DNA.
- Marshawn Lynch loves Skittles. No really, this is a legit reason.
Since we were headed to a “Wing Ding” on Superbowl Sunday, we decided to break the mold and make….. SKITTLES WINGS!
Yes, folks, we made Skittles wings in honor of our controversial, yet lovable man, Marshawn Lynch. And I have to admit, they were pretty flippin’ fantastic (even if the pics look not so delish). Chef/DJ Ryan got jiggy with it and mixed up the sauce on the fly, but he included the gist of what was added below in “Ingredients”.
I won’t go into detail on the wings themselves, Ry grilled them up on the Weber first and kept them in a pre-heated 170 degree oven to keep them warm.
Skittles Wing Sauce:
First off, freeze a handful of Skittles in the color of your choice. You’re later going to throw these in the blender to turn them into a powder/topping of sorts.
Next, melt down a separate handful of Skittles in a sauce pan on low to medium heat with some butter. Stir frequently, watch out for too much boiling/bubbling.
Once they look fully melted, wisk in additional ingredients, plus one more teaspoon of butter, over medium heat.
Now, here comes the fun part, coat those wingie babies up in that SAWCE!
Last, but not least, pour remaining Skittles on the plate, place the wings on top and dust them with your Skittle (fairy) dust.

Serving Size – Sauce for 25-30 wings
- 25-30 Wings (we picked up local, organic ones from a butcher shop nearby – yum!)
- 2 Bags Skittles (Ryan picked out all the green and blue ones for the Seahawks) – you only use a “handful” to freeze and a “handful” to melt then the rest are for garnish
- 3 Tbsp. Butter for Melting – 2 for melting Skittles, 1 for mixing Sauce
- 1/4 Cup Soy Sauce
- 4 Dashes of Teriyaki Sauce
- 1/2 Bottle of Mae Ploy Sauce (sweet chili sauce)
- 1/4 Tsp. Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Tsp. Garlic Powder
As a safe backup, Ryan also made his traditional buffalo wings, just in case the Skittles wings were completely gross.
To sop up some of that sauce, I did my go-to Bacon Cheddar Ranch Pulls which is one of the easiest (and tastiest) recipes found on Pinterest. Hands down.
Finally, to make sure everyone got their sweet fix, I made these Brownie Buckeye Cookies, but molded them pre-baking into football shapes and added white chocolate lines for effect.

Melted some white chocolate, put it in a ziplock with a corner cut out and drew some lines (is there a proper name for those?!).
